Car free days out

We have several visitors who arrive by train and have a wonderful car free holiday exploring Far West Cornwall from their base here at Boscrowan.

In the summer months (May-September) enjoy a ride on an open top bus to enjoy the local sights and magnificent Penwith landscape. Bus service 300 runs a circular route beginning and terminating at Penzance. You can enjoy the whole meandering, circular route or hop on and off as many times as you like as you take in places such as Porthcurno, Land’s End, Sennen, Geevor Heritage Centre, St. Ives and Marazion. It really is a unique way to explore local towns, beaches and stretches of the coastal path for a very reasonable ticket price.

Local buses stop outside the Sportsman’s Arms in Heamoor or outside Trengwainton Garden. Find more information on bus routes and timetables in each cottage.

For a breathtakingly scenic ride along the coast to St. Ives, with superb views of the sea, catch a train at St. Erth (or less frequently from Penzance). The St. Ives Branch Line runs a service approximately every 30 minutes and runs throughout the year. A single track line hugs the coastline and you can sit back and enjoy views of Lelant Saltings and the stunning beaches of Carbis bay and Porthminster. St. Ives is busy for a large part of the year and it is advisable and far more enjoyable to reach this popular town by train than rather than by car.

If you are travelling towards Truro or further up the county trains leaving from Penzance always seem to have plenty of room.

Walking Visits
Trengwainton Gardens, one of our nearest attractions, is within easy walking distance from Boscrowan (approximately one mile). Take in the stunning walled garden and views over St. Mount’s Bay before taking a leisurely stroll back to your cottage. For a fabulous walk alongside the sea walk into Penzance, then along the promenade into Newlyn and onto Mousehole. Books of walks and plenty of maps inside each cottage will inspire you to leave your car behind and try alternative transport during your stay. Combining bus rides with walking along the coastal path is highly recommended.

Cycling
You are welcome to bring your own or use the two Boscrowan bikes to visit the local attractions and countryside. We now have Beryl bikes to hire in Penzance https://beryl.cc/scheme/cornwall
