Boscrowan is a wildlife haven and we are committed to sustainability and protecting the environment. Feel free to wander the grounds or simply enjoy the views of the gardens from the comfort of your accommodation. Whatever the weather you can enjoy your stay here with our cosy wood burning stoves, private patio areas and gardens and well designed accommodation.

Boscrowan Children on Dotty riding up the road

Our animals are an everyday part of life at Boscrowan but they are also a great source of entertainment and delight for many of our visitors. Wander around Boscrowan and you will more than likely meet the horse and pony -Jasper and Dotty, chickens, Maisie the Labrador - who is always up for a walk with guests around our 25 acres of fields or even a game of ball. Lets not forget Tiny Tim the cat basking in the sunshine.

Red Hen

Many of our youngest visitors list feeding and meeting the farm animals as their most popular memory of Boscrowan and we all know that the best holidays are full of memories. We actively encourage younger visitors to participate in the routines of the farm such as collecting eggs from the chickens or watching the farrier shoe the horses.

Boscrowan Land

The Land

Boscrowan’s land is very interesting to explore with its small fields with high hedges for windbreaks when it was formerly a market garden growing early flowers and vegetables on its south facing slopes. Daffodils are no longer grown here sadly as our fields are too small for modern machinery. Our bird feeders encourage many varieties of birds to our gardens and binoculars and a bird guide book will help young and old learn more. We are always keen to know which varieties of birds our guests have spotted!

Wildlife Pond

Wildlife Pond

For some years we contemplated constructing a wildlife pond in a very wet field directly below the farmhouse. We are so pleased that we went ahead as since the pond was first created, in September 2009, it has very quickly become established – as if it’s been there for years!

From the beginning we were keen to encourage wildlife to the pond and we have had great success with several species of dragonfly, kingfishers, cormorants, a heron, Canada geese, mallard ducks, water voles and even a pair of otters visiting. We seem to have got the balance of plants and wildlife right and the reed mace (bullrushes), gunnera, restios, water lilies, flag iris and elodea are growing rapidly and giving us very clear water too.
